Maintaining a low spam complaint rate is one of the most critical factors in email deliverability and IP reputation management. When a recipient clicks **Report Spam** in their inbox, mailbox providers can notify the sender through a **Complaint Feedback Loop (FBL)** so the complaining address is immediately suppressed from future mailings.

Most traditional feedback loops send reports formatted using the **Abuse Reporting Format (ARF)** (RFC 5965) to a designated abuse or postmaster address registered for your sending IPs or DKIM signing domains.

## Major Email Provider Feedback Loops

Below is the reference list of active Feedback Loop and Postmaster portals you should configure when provisioning dedicated sending IPs or custom DKIM domains (such as on PowerMTA, Postfix, or cloud relays):

### Yahoo & AOL (Yahoo Sender Hub)

Yahoo and AOL operate a **DKIM-based Complaint Feedback Loop (CFL)** managed through the [Yahoo Sender Hub](https://senders.yahooinc.com/complaint-feedback-loop/). Unlike legacy IP-based loops, Yahoo keys off your `d=` DKIM signing domain and requires a verified postmaster domain record before delivering ARF complaint reports.

### Microsoft (Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, MSN)

Microsoft provides two essential services for infrastructure operators:

- **Junk Mail Reporting Program (JMRP):** Sends ARF complaint messages whenever an Outlook/Hotmail user marks an email from your registered IP ranges as junk.
- **Smart Network Data Services (SNDS):** Provides daily telemetry on IP reputation, spam trap hits, and filter results across Microsoft consumer mailboxes via [SNDS](https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/).

### Gmail (Google Postmaster Tools & Feedback-ID)

Gmail does **not** send per-recipient ARF emails to protect user privacy. Instead, Gmail uses an aggregated feedback loop via [Google Postmaster Tools](https://postmaster.google.com/). To track complaint rates by campaign or customer stream in Gmail, inject the `Feedback-ID` header into outgoing messages signed by your DKIM key:

```text
Feedback-ID: CampaignID:CustomerID:MailTypeID:SenderId
```

Combined with mandatory **RFC 8058 One-Click Unsubscribe** headers, this keeps Gmail spam complaint rates below the strict `0.10%` threshold (and well clear of the `0.30%` enforcement ceiling):

```text
List-Unsubscribe: <https://mail.example.com/unsubscribe?id=12345>
List-Unsubscribe-Post: List-Unsubscribe=One-Click
```

### Validity Universal Feedback Loop (Formerly Return Path)

Many regional ISPs and hosting providers (including Comcast, Cox, Charter/Spectrum, Rackspace, Synacor, and Fastmail) syndicate their complaint feeds through [Validity Everest / Sender Certification](https://fbl.returnpath.net/), consolidating over 20 mailbox providers into a single registration workflow.

### EarthLink

For legacy consumer domains on the EarthLink network, review the [EarthLink Sender Best Practices](https://support.earthlink.net/articles/customer-service/collection-of-best-practices-for-email-senders-on-the-earthlink-network.php) and ensure reverse DNS (`PTR`), SPF, and DKIM align strictly with your `Return-Path` domain.

## Automating FBL Ingestion in Production

Before registering for any IP-based or domain-based FBL, verify that your infrastructure meets these prerequisites:

**Working Abuse & Postmaster Mailboxes:** Both `abuse@yourdomain.com` and `postmaster@yourdomain.com` must accept inbound mail and route ARF attachments (`message/feedback-report`) to your suppression webhook or parser.
**Consistent DKIM & rDNS Alignment:** Ensure every outbound MTA signs with a 2048-bit DKIM key and that each sending IP has a matching forward-confirmed reverse DNS (`FCrDNS`) record.
**Immediate Suppression:** Parse incoming ARF payloads automatically and mark the recipient as `complained` in your database within minutes so no further campaigns reach that address.
